Annual events hosted in Wellington region

Marjorie Jenden Tournament

King's Birthday Weekend - Saturday 31 March & Sunday 1 June 2025
Host: Kapi Mana Netball Centre, Mungavin Park, Porirua
Register via Kapi Mana Netball Centre once open

Marjorie Jenden (1927-2005) was a much loved and respected netball administrator influential in Wellington, Kapiti and Kapi Mana netball centres particularly as an umpire in her early netball career.  Marjorie Jenden gave her time to preside over both Wellington and Kapi Mana centres, hold governance roles with the New Zealand Netball Association in the 1970s and further became Vice President of the sport's governing body, International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA now known as World Netball) from 1975 to 1983.

Host duties rotate annually around Netball Wellington Centre, Netball Kapiti, Kapi Mana Netball Centre and Netball Wairarapa. This tournament serves as a first foray into tournament game play for newly formed U14, U16 and U18 representative teams building towards putting in a strong performance at final championships in July.

Teams from Hutt Valley, Kapiti, Kapi Mana, Wairarapa and Wellington attend along with teams from our wider Netball Central Zone (Hawke's Bay, Manawatū, Taranaki, Whanganui, Horowhenua) and friends across Cook Strait along with any teams keen to travel to participate & add diversity with the aim for all to have a really good run and strengthen netball ties.

If interested in attending, please enquire to Community Development Officer John via admin@netballwellington.co.nz.

The Wellington Regional Combined Centres of Netball Kapiti, Hutt Valley Netball Centre, Kapi Mana Netball Centre, Netball Wellington Centre and Netball Wairarapa decided to resurrect a fixture with the intention of providing added game time in the lead-up to competing at the North Island Netball Champs hosted in New Plymouth.

This event is extended directly to all centres within our Wellington region and wider Netball Central Zone yet we welcome anyone interested to travel to participate to add diversity and give all teams a really good run and strengthen netball ties.

Dale Wortman U18 Invitational Fixture

Sunday 22 June 2025
Host:
Netball Wellington Centre, Ākau Tangi Sports Centre, Wellington
Register via link provided once activated

As part of our Centre's centenary celebrations in 2018, we proudly named this representative event in honour of Netball Wellington Centre's long-serving Life Member Dale Wortman whose extensive volunteer services to netball span well over 70 years. Dale Wortman has been passionately involved in netball at all levels including as club & representative player, coach, selector, umpire, examiner of umpires, plus club & centre administration as President, Vice President and Secretary. In this time she gained regional and national level honours.

Netball Wellington Centre hosts this annual event to provide an opportunity for U18 rep players to gain valuable game experience against a wide pool of competitive teams in preparation for representing well at National Champs in July.

While this event is extended directly to all centres within our Central Zone, we warmly welcome teams who may wish to travel to participate to add diversity.  In past years we have been fortunate to welcome teams from Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and Australia.  If keen to take part, please email Community Development Officer John Neho admin@netballwellington.co.nz.
